Kaleidoscopic Geometries, Spring/Summer 2018
This collection began with many fabric inspirations but other images dropped in and began to expand my thoughts. Gaudi's Sagrada Familia, with it's conical shapes and natural geometries, also quilting patterns as a way to create motifs in printing and patchwork of disparate textiles, Japanese, Indian, African and English, unifying cultures as fabrics maintain their individuality. Kaleidoscopic imagery, spiraling, mirrored and layered came into play and deepened with the definition of kaleidoscope: from the Greek, observer of beauty. What is our own definition of beauty as a culture and how has it changed over the years? How are we a slave to perception from without and within? As I try to please myself, choosing colors and patterns both playful and beautiful, I hope you too enjoy their beauty.
